WHAT IS THE GROWING WHATCOM CSA?
The Growing Whatcom CSA is more than just great food. It's families getting reconnected with local farms while reducing their impact on the environment. It‘s local farmers growing fresh, organic fruits, vegetables and herbs for the families in our community. It's a project that ties local farms together as one team to provide consumers with the best that Whatcom County has to offer.
MULTIPLE FARMSThe Growing Whatcom CSA is a collaborative effort of several farms throughout the county. Each farm adds in its own unique assortment of crops, making Growing Whatcom a diverse and delicious way to support your local growers. You're investing in a share of the harvests from not one, but over a dozen small farms!
OPTIONS In addition to the 100 or so fruit and vegetable varieties that will show up in your box over the course of the season, t here are also several add-on options available, so your food box can provide you with a well-rounded stockpile of fruits, vegetables, proteins and grains, all from local producers working together to feed our growing community! In addition to your weekly or every other week box, the Growing Whatcom CSA offers customers the ability to also receive locally produced bread, farm fresh eggs, delicious milk in a glass jar, delectable butter, locally roasted coffee, or farmstead cheese.
LOCAL We are about as local as you can get without growing it in your garden! All of our participating farms are located within Whatcom County , no more than 20 miles from downtown Bellingham . Because it is traveling such a short distance, your food will be on the table less than 36 hours after harvest, making for fresh, great tasting meals. Low food miles and a great selection of fresh, organic food....what more could you want for your family?
DELICIOUS Whether it's Hopewell Farm's famous carrots, garlic from Rabbit Fields, mixed berries from Alm Hill, gigantic heirloom tomatoes from Nooksack Nine, beautiful beets from Broadleaf Farm, gorgeous peppers from Cooperativa Jacal, unbelievable Honeycrisp Apples from Bellewood Acres, crazy potatoes from Walter at F.A. Farms, super salad from K&M Red River Farm, a bounty of orchard fruit from Hauck's, cut greens from Double Rainbow, or some new wild crop from DEVine Gardens, customers can count on absolutely fabulous food.
What our 2008 members had to say:
“The variety was impressive. The quality was shockingly fresh.”
“This is a great way to support the same farmers that support our local farmers markets.”
“We fell in love with at least five foods we'd never tried before. The kids refuse to eat anything but Honeycrisp Apples now, and I just won't buy berries out of season again after tasting those raspberries. And fennel and fresh shelling beans? Who knew?”
“OMG, OMG, I love my CSA. Can't wait until next year.”
“I felt like I was living in the Old West each week as I rambled up to the feed store to pick up my box of veggies, eggs and coffee. Please add bacon.”
