Farm To School Program
Information for Schools Interested in Participating
If you are a parent, student, teacher, or administrator, Growing Washington can help you make connections to local food! With our experience in agriculture, we know that there are hundreds of farms in Washington State, in addition to our own farms, all looking to sell their food. Most of our farm to school projects focus on supplementing existing menus with fresh local fruits and vegetables, which are widely available locally at competitive prices!
As a non-profit, our biggest need is to effectively service our community, so our first step is to find out what the needs of each individual school are. We are not only providing food; we are providing connections so each individual school district can form relationships with the local producers they choose. Some districts starting out only buying one product weekly, like carrots or apples, but over time many discover that it is easy to buy locally on a much larger scale and Growing Washington’s commitments grow to meet that demand.
We would love to begin a discussion about bringing local food into your schools and we invite you to contact us anytime!
